Art Club offers a creative outlet for the young artist. Students meet once a week for appx 45 min to an hour. The lessons and topics covered vary from session to session. Students are able to create new and exciting pieces using several different techniques and mediums.
Choir
Elementary School Choir - Grades 3-5
Middle School Choir - Grades 6-8
Both choirs give students the opportunity to develop proper singing technique and to master repertoire that is suitable for their ages. Rehearsals are 45 minutes once a week after school, sometimes more when needed. Both the Middle School Choir and the Elementary School Choir sing at the All School Masses, Lessons and Carols, Catholic School Week, SGGS Arts Festival, Spring Concert, and other times when requested. These choir members realize that this is a commitment, and our success depends on that. Students that have participated in SGGS Choirs for a number of years, should be prepared to participate to the fullest extent in church choirs and /or choirs on the high school level.
Grades 6-8
Model UN offers students an opportunity to roleplay as a delegate of the United Nations. The students will learn the role of the United Nations, delegate positions, parliamentary procedures, research and writing, world events, public speaking, as well as leadership skills. The students attend several conferences during the year.
Student Council
Grades 6-8
The Student Council Association is made up of a board of elected 8th grade students: Board positions include President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and up to 2 Members at Large. Elections are held in the spring of the students' seventh-grade year. In the fall of each school year, a class representative is elected in each of the middle school homerooms and each rep is a member of the Student Council. The members of the SCA meet throughout the school year to plan and support a number of schools and community-wide programs. The SCA plays a very important role; they help share student ideas and concerns, they help raise money for causes and projects, they assist the community in areas of need, and they promote school spirit while serving as student leaders. A sampling of activities includes: planning and hosting 3 Middle School dances, organizing a school-wide scarecrow contest, selling Christmas candy canes and Easter lollipops to help raise money for projects and causes. Past service projects include sponsoring winter coat drives, hosting a Nails for Nickels campaign to support of our local Habitat for Humanity program, as well as contributing to disaster relief efforts and other worthy charities. The Student Council provides middle school students with opportunities to showcase their leadership, creativity, to serve as positive role models to other students and to encourage school spirit. Joining the Student Council is a fun way to get involved and make a difference.
